Domestic technologies and paid domestic work. Reflections on an invisible relationship

Abstract

In this article we propose to explore, from a Feminist Studies of Technology, the links between domestic technologies and paid domestic work in contemporary societies.Although in Argentina, and in the region, there are numerous research on domestic and care work, there are still no focused studies the relationship with domestic technologies, which occupy a fundamental place in the development of the various tasks carried out with the home. Inquiry into domestic technologies reveals that they do not save labor and working time, but rather increase the productivity and efficiency of paid domestic work. Likewise, they make visible the skills and competencies that are needed for domestic production, which has been undervalued by technology studies.
