Abstract

The following article, framed within Occupational Science, aims to investigate and analyze how Chilean adolescents, who identify as homosexuals, experience the influence of context on their occupational choices. Information was collected through individual interviews and a discussion group of four teenagers who met the research criteria. An interpretative analysis was then realized, where at first, participants did not identify influences from the context on their occupational choices, because of identifying themselves as homosexuals. Nevertheless, in the analysis of their speech, aspects are mentioned that indicate that the context influences the occupational selections of these young people, because of the heteronormativity that predominates in the Chilean society. Finally, they emphasize that this influence of heteronormativity is not exclusive to people because of their sexual orientation, but impacts people in all of their life’s aspects, because of the prevailing culture.
