In the past years, the progressive consolidation of an “emerging ‘urbanistic’ culture” has
opened a discussion regarding the real relevance of large urban interventions, and especially
the fact that these projects tend to generate isolated architectural objects, with no reference to
the environment or the context, which promotes dispersion and territorial fragmentation. This
discussion acts as a call to reconsider Michel de Certau’s position on the importance of strategic
and tactical social praxis that originate from a variety of stake-holders involved in the
production of urban space. In this regard, this article explores the gradually increasing
convergence between the strategic perspectives and the tactical approaches that allow us to
take a critical and reflexive look at urban projects, promoting a greater understanding of the
environment and context where they are inserted.
